There's a sign just before you reach the West Cork village of Goleen that says:
"Slow Down. Wake Up."
It's only three words, but it perfectly sums up West Cork.
Because when you holiday here, you really do wake up. You wake up to the tides instead of notifications. To conversations that aren't rushed. To food that hasn't travelled hundreds of miles. To skies full of stars. To the sound of the Atlantic. To the simple things that, somewhere along the way, we forgot mattered most.
If you're visiting Cork, my advice is simple: keep driving. Follow the N71 all the way west. Every mile feels like you're leaving something behind, until eventually the road runs out at Mizen Head – and you'll probably wish your holiday didn't.
The best part? You don't need to spend a fortune.
