TP ICAP is working with National Numeracy on a four year partnership to support our work across communities, workplaces and within the wider culture to help millions of people transform their lives. TP ICAP is the world’s largest interdealer broker and plays a pivotal role in the world’s financial, energy and commodities markets. Their brokers use their maths skills every day to understand complex markets, which are constantly evolving. As numbers people they know that numeracy is one of life’s crucial building blocks, and share our view that by improving basic numeracy skills, opportunities and life chances are improved for all.
Santander UK has formed a three year partnership with National Numeracy to work together to improve financial inclusion in the UK. As well as raising awareness of the importance of numeracy, the work aims to improve confidence with budgeting and money management across the country. Santander is a financial services provider that offers a wide range of personal and commercial financial products and services. At 30 June 2019, the bank has around 24,000 employees. It serves around 15 million active customers, via a nationwide branch network, telephone, mobile and online banking; and 62 regional Corporate Business Centres.
We joined forces with KPMG to launch the Essentials of Numeracy and our 2017 report, "A new approach to making the UK numerate", to help the shift in attitude and attainment of numeracy in the UK. We have secured a four-year partnership with the professional services organisation to build momentum and help garner further business endorsement for the Essentials, and backing to influence policy.
As of April 2019 National Numeracy is teaming up with Edge Future Learning, supported by funding from education charity the Edge Foundation. The project involves working within three secondary schools in the Nottingham area, trialling a learning approach that utilises National Numeracy’s online tools, attitudinal support, and ‘Essentials at 14’ project. We aim to measure the impact on students’ numeracy levels, their confidence with numbers, and their overall self-confidence.
National Numeracy is an Experian United for Financial Health programme partner, using financial education and wellbeing through numeracy to empower those marginalised by COVID-19. Our innovative activities within this programme include creating confidence and skills-building resources, research, campaigns and coalition-building to improve numeracy in the UK.
Garfield Weston Foundation
In 2019 National Numeracy made a successful bid to secure Garfield Weston funding which will contribute to expanding our parental engagement project. This will include work aimed at enabling parents to provide more support to their primary-aged children by building confidence in their own numeracy. Over the years the organisation has generously supported our core, attitudes and influencing work as well as supporting the National Numeracy Challenge project.
In 2020, Provident Financial Group (PFG) is supporting National Numeracy in adapting our established Becoming a Numeracy Champion programme for delivery within a community setting. National Numeracy will be working with PFG community partners on the project. The programme will equip key community leaders with the tools and knowledge they need to raise awareness of low numeracy as an issue, change attitudes towards numeracy and support their community to improve their numeracy.
Ufi VocTech Trust
As of 2020, National Numeracy and Ufi VocTech Trust are launching a project seeking to make numeracy skills-building more accessible to those who lack time, computer access and confidence. The two-year Mobiles, Skills & Confidence with Numbers project will ensure a great mobile experience for the National Numeracy Challenge, enabling more working adults to improve their skills on the move. It will also support adults with maths anxiety and those with lower maths skills. The project hopes to improve the skills and/or confidence of 20,000 adults, enabling them to ‘get on with numbers’ and thereby get on at work.
