Volunteer of the Month: March 2026

2 Apr 2026

By Sally Weatherall, Volunteering Programme Manager

March was a busy month for our corporate volunteering programme, with 22 volunteers going into 16 different schools reaching over 1,500 children.

We’re pleased to announce that our Volunteer of the Month for March 2026 is Jade Bacon, Risk and Control Tester at Capital One.

This was Jade’s first volunteering experience with National Numeracy. She visited Becket Primary School in Derby to deliver a My Maths Story assembly, telling the children all about how she uses numbers in her job, day to day life and hobbies. Jade then helped to run a Maths in the Real World classroom session which included parents from the school community.

Jade said, "Overall the assembly went great. The pupils asked a lot of questions and there was plenty to talk about. They seemed interested in my work too and the company. I improved my presentation skills, thinking on the spot and putting myself outside my comfort zone."

Becket Primary School is part of National Numeracy’s Schools & Families Programme, working with primary schools and families to support children to feel confident and positive about maths.

Ian Ridgway, Assistant Headteacher at Becket Primary School said, "We had a great morning with Jade. It was great to have someone employed outside of the school to talk to the children about the maths they use in their work life and free time - a good link was made with sport. We had very good engagement and parents attended and helped facilitate the groups."

In partnership, Capital One and National Numeracy have a shared commitment to addressing social mobility and supporting people with the number confidence to succeed in life. Capital One were the startup funder for National Numeracy’s Corporate Volunteering Programme and continue to demonstrate their support with their growing network of active corporate volunteers investing in communities, helping us to inspire children across the UK with meaningful maths in the real-world sessions for brighter financial futures.

A huge thank you to Jade and Capital One for their continued support of the volunteering programme.

That is a wrap on volunteering for the Spring term! We are excited to get matching volunteers to schools in the summer and to celebrate National Numeracy Day on 20 May 2026.
