What are we trying to achieve?

Our vision is for everyone in the UK to have the confidence and competence to use numbers and think mathematically in everyday life.

Nearly 80% of the adult population have numeracy levels below the equivalent of a GCSE ‘C’ grade and and 49% are at a level expected of children at primary school. We aim to see such low levels of numeracy eradicated.

We know this will not happen overnight but we want everyone to reach a level of numeracy that allows them to meet their full potential. To achieve this we will work unrelentingly to improve levels of numeracy among adults and children and create a more positive ‘can-do’ attitude to maths and numeracy.

We believe that this is possible but that it will require sustained and coordinated effort from teachers, organisations, government – and from learners themselves.
