Anne, Peter and Jo spoke to the BBC as part of coverage exploring numeracy and financial literacy, sharing candid stories about their own relationships with numbers and how building their confidence has helped them in everyday life.
Nationwide coverage for National Numeracy across the BBC
Their stories received fantastic exposure across the BBC, with coverage this weekend on BBC Breakfast, Radio 4's Money Box, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4, BBC Sounds and BBC 5 Live Breakfast, and the charity was featured on regional radio too.
BBC Money Box reporter Dan Whitworth also gave National Numeracy a brilliant on-air shout-out, directing listeners to our website and highlighting the support available to anyone who wants to improve their number confidence.
Dan said the stories demonstrated why National Numeracy’s work is “so, so important”, describing Anne, Peter and Jo as excellent interviewees who shared their experiences with insight, confidence and openness.
Money Box also heard from Lord Agnew, Chair of the Numeracy for Life Committee, who said: “National Numeracy were one of our strongest witnesses to our inquiry, and they are doing fantastic work and the examples you found today show evidence of that.”
You can improve your number skills and confidence too
Most importantly, the coverage carried a message at the heart of our work: whatever your experience of maths at school, it is never too late to improve your number confidence.
A huge thank you to Anne, Peter and Jo for being willing to share their stories so openly, and to the BBC for giving such an important issue a national platform.
You can listen to the Money Box episode via BBC Sounds here, National Numeracy is featured on the first item.
