We are thrilled to announce the winners and runners-up for the National Numeracy Day 2023 Number Heroes competition!

National Numeracy Ambassador Bobby Seagull invited children across the UK to show us all the different ways they will use numbers when they grow up – and they delivered! We saw everything from scientists to sunbathers, deep-sea divers to dentists, and even a trampolinist or two!

We had six categories so that everyone aged 3 to 13, as well as children and young people in receipt of SEN support or an EHCP, could enter to win one of six prize bundles worth over £1,000 for their school. These prize bundles were made possible thanks to generous donations from Black & White Publishing, KPMG, Numberblocks, Numbots, Oxford University Press, Times Tables Rock Stars, and White Rose Maths.

Bobby faced a difficult decision choosing only six winners from the 10,000 incredible entries, but after rounds of shortlists the following were chosen – winning a prize and certificate for themselves, as well as goodies to get their schools and communities all feeling number confident:

  • Pre-School: Chloe, Meadows Day Nursery
  • Primary A: Isaac, Bicton CE Primary School
  • Primary B: Deborah, Beis Yaakov Primary School
  • Primary C: Rishi, Fairfield Prep School
  • Secondary A: James, Southend High School for Boys
  • SEND/EHCP: Vanesa, Five Acre Wood School

And with so many excellent entries, there had to be even more runners-up! Those chosen as runners-up were:

  • Amelia, Whitchurch Primary School
  • Archie, Canon Burrows CE Primary School
  • Emily, Hurst Primary School
  • Florry, Sidmouth College
  • Freya, Nine Mile Ride Primary School
