Volunteer of the Month: February 2024

28 Feb 2024

By Laura Hill, Volunteering Manager

February was a busy month for National Numeracy’s corporate volunteering programme with 16 volunteers visiting 12 schools and reaching over 1600 children, inspiring them to see the value of maths in the real world.

We’re pleased to announce that our Volunteer of the Month for February 2024 is Cathy Prior, Social Impact Programme Manager at Vanquis Banking Group.

Cathy visited Low Moor C of E Primary in Bradford to deliver her My Maths Story assembly and support two Maths in the Real World class sessions.

Jessica Troy, class teacher and school maths lead, said:

“We had a great time! Cathy was fantastic. She delivered a great assembly to the whole of Key Stage 2. Children were enthused and engaged, asking lots of questions.”

Cathy said of her experience:

“It was a pleasure to attend Low Moor Primary, both in terms of the school’s and National Numeracy’s preparation ahead of the day. I loved being involved in the classroom sessions, and because I joined two different classes it was interesting to see how both teachers ran the session slightly differently. The children had some great questions to ask me about how I use numbers and shared some great examples of how they also use numbers every day! I’ve already been back in touch regarding bringing the year group down to our offices to do some activities with them around skills development.”

Well done to Cathy and thank you to all the volunteers who have visited schools in February.
