Volunteers of the Month: May 2026

2 Jun 2026

By Sally Weatherall, Volunteering Programme Manager

As we begin the final half term of the academic year, we are delighted to reflect on a fantastic month of volunteering activities to celebrate National Numeracy Day in May.

Our volunteers have been very busy visiting schools in London, Belfast, Nottingham, Wrexham and Leeds!

Volunteers of the month for May come from some of our Lead Supporters for National Numeracy Day: Capital One, Experian, S&P Global, TP ICAP and Vanquis Banking Group.

We want to say a huge thank you for being part of this year’s campaign and reaching over 2,000 children with your school visits!

Volunteers spoke to children about the many ways they use maths in everyday life, helping to challenge stereotypes about the types of jobs and people that use numbers. They supported the National Numeracy Day campaign in schools and helped promote our Number Heroes competition, encouraging children to think about how people in their neighbourhoods, clubs and communities use numbers every day.

One teacher told us: "The children greatly enjoyed the activity and linking numeracy to beyond the school walls, surprising themselves with how often they use their maths skills without even realising!"

And a corporate volunteer said: "The assembly was my favourite bit. I was surprised at how enthusiastic the kids were. It was genuinely a lot of fun."

As we close off this year’s Volunteers’ Week we are excited to continue to match our brilliant corporate volunteers to schools in June and July across the UK, and to see the incredible impact they have on the children they meet, helping to build confidence with numbers and inspire positive attitudes towards maths.
