This month, Compare the Market and Peterborough United FC – AKA ‘The Posh’ – hosted an action-packed event, all about the importance of everyday numeracy.

Fun-filled activities brought numbers to life for children

The “Numbers Made Simples” event, held at Compare the Market’s Peterborough head office, brought together colleagues and their children for a day of interactive maths-inspired activities, where creativity, movement and problem-solving combined to show that numbers can be enjoyable, relevant and accessible for everyone.

The packed programme included a “Number Detectives” scavenger hunt and a creative workshop led by National Numeracy.

Meanwhile, a special maths assembly, hosted by Compare the Market’s Ursula Gibbs and Katherine Ashwell, highlighted the importance of everyday maths skills and how families can support learning at home.

There were also opportunities for the children to take part in National Numeracy’s “Number Heroes” competition and meet Peterborough United FC players, David Okagbue and Cian Hayes!

The event formed part of the build-up to National Numeracy Day on Wednesday 20 May, the charity’s annual campaign which brings individuals, schools and organisations from around the country together to showcase the importance of everyday maths.

It also sits within a wider, transformational three-year partnership between National Numeracy and Compare the Market, focused on improving number confidence and financial confidence across the UK.

As a Lead Supporter of key campaigns, including National Numeracy Day and Number Confidence Week, Compare the Market is helping to expand the charity’s reach, break down barriers to numeracy, and empower more people to feel confident using numbers in everyday life.

Through the partnership, Compare the Market colleagues are also supporting National Numeracy’s work through volunteering and community engagement, helping to inspire the next generation and demonstrate the real-life value of numeracy skills.

Sam Sims, CEO of National Numeracy, said: “Millions of people feel anxious about numbers and maths, and that can hold us back in life and work. That’s why our transformational three-year partnership with Compare the Market is so important. By bringing families together for a fun, hands-on day of activities, we’re showing that numbers don’t have to be scary; they can be engaging, practical and empowering, not least in helping us to build financial confidence.”

Ursula Gibbs, Chief Commercial Officer, Compare the Market, said:“At Compare the Market, we’re passionate about making financial decision making a breeze for everyone. Building number confidence is a key part of that, and we’re proud to support National Numeracy in creating opportunities like this for our colleagues and their families.”
