National Numeracy Day is back on 21 May, and this year we’ve expanded our suite of Welsh resources, with even more free activities.

We want to get the UK feeling as confident with numbers as we can, by supporting both adults and children. And we want our support to be as accessible as possible.

Welsh resources

So, this year we’ve translated our entire Family Maths Toolkit into Welsh!

The Family Maths Toolkit includes over 230 activities to build number confidence in primary school children, and gets the whole family involved. It covers key topics from the curriculum in real-life scenarios, such as baking or saving money, and encourages creativity!

Working with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s Multiply team, the complete Family Maths Toolkit has been translated into Welsh. This includes year group packs for ages 4-10, a pack of activities around building positive mindsets, and sheets for parents & carers about boosting their own confidence and supporting children to develop positive attitudes towards maths.

The Number Heroes competition is also available in Welsh

The Number Heroes competition is back for National Numeracy Day 2025 – and you can enter now to win! Six prize packs for schools or youth groups are up for grabs, as well as prizes for six winning children and 18 runners-up.

It’s free to enter, and there is no fundraising requirement – so everyone can get involved!

To enter the competition, children need to create a picture showing us how they will use numbers when they grow up, in their dream job or hobby.

And adults can join in too – the Big Number Natter is back!

The Big Number Natter is the first ever nationwide conversation about numbers. Everyone has something to say about maths, and sharing experiences is a great first step towards building number confidence. Whether good, bad, or simply hilarious, we all have a tale to tell!

Throughout May the nation will be nattering, and this year actress and Loose Women star Denise Welch is enlisting the help of some celebrity pals.

With posters, slides, and activity idea sheets all available in Welsh, there’s everything you need to start a conversation about numbers, and the opportunity to change lives for the better.

The Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary of Education Lynne Neagle said:

"Maths and numeracy are vital life skills and it’s important that children and young people develop them from an early age.

"Improving learners’ understanding and confidence in maths and numeracy are key priorities for us. It is encouraging to see the continued work of National Numeracy in supporting our learners to build that confidence."
