In February 2013, the Department for Education announced its intention to comprehensively reform GCSEs. The department has been seeking views on proposed subject content and assessment objectives for the new GCSEs.
We strongly believe that the proposed revisions to the GCSE exam are not in the best interests of all students and in particular will not adequately prepare those going on to vocational non-HE routes. In our response to the Department for Education consultation, we have suggested that the government waits for the results of its own pilot into a dual GCSE exam before making major changes. We believe there is now a very strong case for two separate Maths GCSE exams.
